17 – 18 November 2021 |Virtual
The Pan-Arab Clean Energy Initiative (PACE), one of the initiatives included in the Roadmap of Actions for the implementation of the Pan-Arab Sustainable Energy Strategy 2014-2030, endorsed by the 4th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit in Beirut in January 2019, is a regional initiative that aims to promote the integration of greater shares of renewables into power systems of the Arab region. IRENA has engaged with the League of Arab States (LAS), the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) and other key regional partners in the design and development of the PACE initiative and its attached Action Plan.
In this regard, and within the framework of the PACE Initiative, IRENA, with its partners, has organied a two day capacity building workshop, on 17-18 of November 2021, to follow up on the high-priority issues identified by regional participants in the 2019 IRENA AVRIL workshop and its summary report. Specifically, these issues were related to: Flexibility: assessing system flexibility at higher levels of VRE penetration; and Stability: validating long-term results through grid integration studies, as well as adapting grid codes to ensure stability with VRE integration.
These topics were addressed through a series of in-depth presentations by topical IRENA experts, which will build on the introductory and exploratory discussions that were held in 2019. The workshop provided participants the opportunity to participate in interactive discussions with the experts.
