The Republic of Moldova has vast renewable energy potential that remains largely untapped. Greater use of renewables would reduce costly fuel imports and boost the country’s economic development.

Renewables Readiness Assessment: Republic of Moldova identifies key actions to accelerate renewable energy deployment and to cement the existing foundations of the sector. The report, based on multi-stakeholder consultations, presents options to strengthen the policy, regulatory and financing framework for renewables. It recommends actions to strengthen national targets, boost the flexibility of existing grid infrastructure, improve the bankability of renewable energy projects, further develop the bioenergy sector and enhance the capacity of local banks.
Among the key recommendations:
A Renewables Readiness Assessment (RRA) identifies the actions needed to overcome a country’s barriers to renewable energy deployment, with IRENA providing technical support and expertise to facilitate consultations among different national stakeholders. While the process helps to shape appropriate policy and regulatory choices, each country determines which renewable energy sources and technologies are relevant and consistent.
